Description: The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health HR is revising their review and approval process for Independent Contractors (IC). Effective January 1, 2024, there is no longer a requirement for HR approval when engaging an independent contractor for a single engagement with payments totaling less than $3,000 and a duration of fewer than 3 months.

While there is no longer a requirement for HR approval for payments less than $3,000, these engagements still need to meet the criteria outlined in the Independent Contractor (IC) policy's 3-part test. To support you with this transition, Karen Kittredge, Senior Manager of Policy and Business Process, and Polly Scannell, Deputy Director, Labor and Employee Relations, are offering a training session. This training gives an overview of the policy as well as the questionnaire and provides guidance and clarification on roles and responsibilities and when and how to classify an individual as an employee or independent contractor.
