Cooperative agreements differ from grants in that they involve substantial staff involvement from the federal awarding agency (indicated by a ‘U’ in the activity code or mechanism as in U01, U54).

How Do I Find Who My Signing Officials Are at My Institution?

For most institutions, the signing official (SO) is in the Office of Sponsored Research or equivalent. If you already have an eRA Commons account, you can find the list of signing officials for your institution in the Institution Profile. Improved Visual Appearance for eRA Commons Modules

Over the next few months, several eRA Commons modules and screens will be moving to the improved visual appearance being adopted by other eRA modules. The new look is part of a required technology upgrade to enhance the security and stability of eRA Commons. A Reminder: Commons ID Required for All on Senior/Key Person Profile (Expanded) Form, Effective Mid-January

January 24, 2024

In April 2021, NIH announced that all personnel listed on the R&R Senior/Key Person Profile (Expanded) Form must have an eRA Commons ID. Those who did not comply were given a warning.

Fast forward to now. Having given ample notice to the applicant and recipient community and seeing a high level of compliance, NIH will now update the warning to an error for non-compliance with this requirement in mid-January. Applicants will receive an error if the “Credential, e.g., agency field” is blank or does not contain a valid eRA Commons ID for all personnel on the form. That...
