Understanding the NIH and Developing Your Proposal

Intended Audience:  Open to all Sponsored Research Administrators within the Harvard Chan School

Twice a year (Fall and Winter) the Office of Research Strategy & Development (ORSD) holds the Faculty Grant Writing Short Course. This course is “designed to assist primary faculty who are actively developing NIH proposals for upcoming grant cycles (you can read more about the course here).” They have graciously agreed to teach the first session of the course entitled “Understanding the NIH and Developing Your Proposal” to the Sponsored Research Community within the Harvard Chan School. 

Some of the topics covered will be:

  • Types of NIH funding mechanisms (focusing on R and K series awards for this session)

  • Overview of NIH Institutes and Centers

  • Discussion of the NIH Review Process

  • Success rates
